Power has been the target of my professional life, from elementary school rebel to civil rights attorney. I have worked with international public health NGO, state-level nonprofits, in budding radical organizing spaces, government institutions, and academia.  In each of those spaces--large to small, radical to institutional--the same patterns have emerged. Power always shows up. Conflict, dysfunction, resentment, and exclusion.

 

Even in teams made up of committed activists and change agents.  Even when you love your work. Even when you love each other.
